The City of Fairfax recently mailed annual reminder letters to voters who have an ongoing absentee ballot application on file through the calendar year. If you wish to receive ballots by mail for elections in calendar year 2021, you must submit a new application.

The easiest method to apply is online at the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal - you will need a driver's license or other state ID number and your SSN.

The online application will not display the option to apply for by-mail absentee ballots for all 2021 elections until January 1, 2021.

If you wish to apply to vote by mail in all 2021 elections in which you are otherwise eligible to vote, you may either:

  • Apply online as early as January 1, 2021

  • or

  • Complete an application form - indicate your preference for an ongoing request in section 3 - and submit that form to our office by mail or email
The next election in the City of Fairfax will be the party primaries, if held, this Spring/Summer, with the date to be determined by the 2021 General Assembly due to redistricting implementation.
